I Am Kurious Orange - Curated by Anne  Colvin
Rehearsal Images Final Performance (video / links) Full Press Release (pdf file)
I Am Kurious Orange is an exhibition, a rehearsal, a residency and a one night final performance conceived specifically for the DCP project space. Inspired by the long-term creative association between dancer Michael Clark (Scotland) and U.K. band The Fall (lead by Mark E. Smith) the exhibition takes it’s initial cues from the Clark/ Fall collaboration on the ballet ‘I am Curious, Orange’ and the accompanying soundtrack, released under the title ‘I am Kurious Oranj’.

Each week a different lead artist and collaborators will use the front room as a rehearsal space - responding through voice, music, text, objects and video to various elements within the show. A schedule of rehearsal dates and times is posted below and will be updated weekly (please scroll down for schedule).

I Am Kurious Orange will culminate on May 30th in a one night production in three acts building on the rehearsals and material developed by each lead artist. The last night of the exhibition will transform into a live collage of costume, idiosyncrasies and extravaganzas. THERE WILL BE A SCREENING OF CHARLES ATLAS' "HAIL THE NEW PURITAN" ON MAY 16TH

Anne Colvin and DCP would like to thank MICHAEL CLARK COMPANY for the loan of materials and their support of this exhibition.
Special thanks to Ellen van Schuylenburch and Holly Conneely
David Cunningham dedicates this exhibition to Gavan Lee – who will know why, and M.E.S. – who knows more than either of us.

SOURCE MATERIAL

William Blake (28 November 1757 – 12 August 1827) was an English poet, painter, printmaker and visionary. Blake is considered a seminal figure in the history of both poetry and the visual arts of the Romantic Age. Considered mad by contemporaries for his idiosyncratic views, Blake is held in high regard by later critics for his expressiveness and creativity, and for the philosophical and mystical undercurrents within his work.

Michael Clark is a dancer and choreographer. "Grounded in classical ballet but informed by London's post-punk art and music scenes, the work of Michael Clark diagrams modern society's performative regimes - of gender and sexuality, of discipline and productivity - even as it stages their subversion" - Artforum, 2008. Michael Clark Company is currently developing a new work which will tour internationally throughout the year including in La Biennale di Venezia.

The Fall are a UK post-punk band and Michael Clark's long-time collaborator. The band has existed in some form ever since 1976 and is essentially built around its founder and only constant member Mark E. Smith. They have maintained a strong cult following. The Fall's lyrics have often been described as 'abstract poetry'.
