Kerri Lee Johnson lives and works in Oakland. A co-founder of BLANKSPACE gallery she is also co-director of Oakland Art Gallery. She has curated numerous exhibitions in other venues and alternative spaces and is an active participant in the vibrant East Bay art scene. Her curatorial work with BLANKSPACE has been recognized in major exhibitions at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts and a recent ‘Alternative Exposures’ grant awarded by Southern Exposure. Her own work is slyly humorous and often has a dark undercurrent. Animal imagery features strongly in her work.  In her paintings and drawings of gun toting rabbits and people with animal masks, humans and animals constantly swap roles in a dizzying, delirious ‘shell game’ of identity.
