Joan Perlman lives and works in Los Angeles. She has exhibited widely in the US, including LA, NY and San Francisco. She is a recipient of fellowships from the NEA, and Durfee Foundation in Los Angeles, and she was selected for the Art Here and Now Program at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.  Residency grants include the Reykjavik Art Museum/SIM, Santa Fe Art Institute, Ucross Foundation and Djerassi Foundation. Her work is in numerous public and private collections including the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco and Musée d’Art Américain Giverny, France/Terra Foundation for the Arts. Perlman’s aesthetic concerns are paralleled in the extreme conditions of the volcanic Icelandic landscape. Its spare beauty and violent geothermal effects have been the subject of her paintings and drawings for over a decade. She had a solo show at the Hafnarborg Institute of Culture and Fine Art in Iceland in 2007 and her work was included in the Inaugural show at DCP.
